The new Cervelo S5 has revolutionized the aero road segment äóñ again. It combines many incremental improvements across the frame to deliver one huge improvement to you: more speed. The model that BikeRadar calls äóìspectacular in terms of raw aggression and savage speedäó now offers increased stiffness, race-ready geometry and improved ride quality to produce our fastest road bike ever.
No wonder the S5 was declared a Bicycling 2015 Editorsäó» Choice winner. In November, Cerví©lo engineers unveiled an entirely new version that combines all the aero benefits of the traditional S5 with significantly improved stiffness and ride quality, as well as new race geometry. This S5 features Cervelo's own All-Carbon Aero Handlebar and HED Jet 6 Plus wheelset, delivering an additional 21.3 Watts of pure speed. MTN-Qhubekaäó»s historic achievements on the World Tour have been thrilling, yes, but hardly surprising. The team rides S5s, after all.
New all-Carbon aero handlebar - Cervelo's new All-Carbon Aero Handlebar saves 4.4 Watts over a standard round bar. With 80mm reach and 128mm drop, compatible with standard 31.8mm stem, the bar also adds to our Aero Cable Management system with internally routed cables.
Improved Shaping - The overall increase in frame width is visible to the eye, with a new tapered steerer tube and fork and substantial girth in the down tube and BB areas. Again, this emphasis on structural efficiency maximizes stiffness and aerodynamics while minimizing weight.
Internal and external battery mounts - Internal battery carriage or external bosses allow for ease of access, and increased aerodynamic advantage. The smaller internal battery also offers a weight advantage.
Improved construction methods - Over 100 unique frame iterations were built in layup development alone to perfect the new S5 frame. Cervelo emphasis on structural efficiency maximizes stiffness while minimizing weight äóñ new tooling methods, tighter tolerances, improved compaction, and fewer bond joints throughout allow for more efficient use of materials.
Increased BB stiffness - Cervelo increased bottom bracket stiffness by 6%, giving you a high degree of connection to the road and a feel of efficiency in each pedal stroke.
Geometry - With a 13mm shorter stack on a 54cm and 15mm shorter stack on a 56cm than the previous-generation S5, the lower stack allows for a more adjustable aero position.
