Smith Optics Pivlock V90 MAX
I had the following criteria when I searched for a new pair of cycling sunglasses this Summer. I needed the glasses to be lightweight but not compromise eye coverage. I’ve always preferred a minimal frame, one that would not obstruct peripheral or top of the lens vision (important when time trailing), think Oakley Zero less the radical style and cost. Certain borders promote sweat to pool and block too much air and allow the lens to fog no matter what kind of coating. (more text after the photo)
The Pivlock V90 is light but definitely not flimsy and the frame is as minimal as can be, absolutely zero is interfering with any part of your field of vision. My V90 Max’s came with three lenses, black platinum mirror, ignitor (rose tinted) and clear. Each of the lenses offers a clear, easy to clean, large surface and they have a sweat seal hydrocoating that allows sweat to roll off easily. I change the lenses in about 10 seconds via the innovative pivlock feature, you basically just rotate the temple 90 degrees and it comes free from the glass. The sleek, ultra-lightweight rimless style of the PivLock V90 offers Smith's celebrated Carbonic TLT lens technology in a wrap-around design, and features the innovative PivLock lens change system. Both temples and nosepiece can be removed quickly with no hassle and no chance of damage to the lens, making the task of lens swapping easier than competitors. These lenses offer a HUGE amount of coverage and it’s impossible to see out the edges I’ve noticed no distortion in my vision in any of the lenses. Smith makes a smaller version of the lens simply called the V90.
