Reynolds RZR 92 Review
I was fortunate enough to have an opportunity to use the Reynolds RZR 92 wheelset on my Look 576 / Sram Rival tri bike at this year Vineman 70.3. The RZR 92's are Reynolds most advanced ultra deep wheel set designed for speed and is the fastest wheels ever tested in the A2 Tunnel test. The first thing that impressed me is how light these wheels are.
The RZR 92 wheelset weighs 1452g. This is light for an ultra deep profile rims wheels. I used front Continental competition 22mm tire and a rear Tufo elite 23mm. Reynolds required tires no less than 22mm on RZR’s. The RZR 92’s felt solid on the steep climb sections and there is no lateral flex thanks to RZR’s rear double carbon torque flange hub. The wheels performed very well on the climbs and did not seem to slow me down. This, of course, can be attributed to the lightness of the wheels. It is on those climbs where the weight makes a difference.
The flats, it is where these wheels excel. The RZR 92’s felt stable, smooth and very fast on the flat/rolling terrain especially at speed of 40+ km/h (25+ mph). They kept the speed very well once I was going above 35 km/h. Compared to other aero wheels I’ve ridden, the RZR’s definitely felt the fastest. The wheels performed nicely in both dry and wet conditions with the Reynolds carbon brake pads.
I liked the comfort of the wheels as well. The RZR’s 92’s felt smooth and comfortable on rough road surfaces. As a result, I felt fresher coming off the bike which of course, made a difference on the run.
Overall, the Reynolds RZR 92 are the nicest and the fastest wheels I have ridden. If you are looking for speed, light weight and comfort, you will not be disappointed with the RZR 92. For more detailed info about the RZR92 go to www.reynoldscycling.com
