Quad Cities Triathlon in Iowa
Numerous San Diego triathletes, supported by the stalwart team of experts at Nytro, the world’s premier triathlon shop, and the Tri Club of San Diego, succeeded in achieving their goals to qualify for Team USA, and compete at the ITU World Triathlon Sprint Championships in Budapest, Hungary on September 11, 2010.
The qualifier, recently held at The Quad Cities Triathlon in Iowa on June 22, 2010 was a beautiful race through the never-ending corn fields and flat tri course throughout this mid-America section of hefty, friendly folks and swampy green pastures.
Pre-race torrential thunder storms, a muddy run, and Chicago-to-race- site rush hour commute put no dampers on the spirits of the local athletes and friends, who all qualified for the Worlds with strong performances. Winners at Quad Cities, new members of Team USA, and World qualifiers include the husband and wife dynamic duo of Scott and Wendy Endsley, Peter Demaster, John Lines, David Price, and Gerry Forman.
Scott Endsley, racing on an Iowa-lightning-fast new Quintana Roo cd.01, and new Zipp 2010 race wheels, outfitted by Nytro, was able to achieve one of the faster bike splits of the day, despite having his aero bars involuntarily positioned at a 45 degree angle during the entire race thanks to unfortunate bike case handling by airport security officials.
Wendy Endsley survived her lost-in-the-cornfields pre-race run to swim, bike, and run well on her way to Budapest. Pete, competing in only his third triathlon ever, dug deep into his consistent training and coaching experience with Scott to qualify for Team USA!
John Lines was his usual superman self and destroyed the field with a dolphin-fast swim, Lance-like bike, and gazelle-like run to conquer his age group also on his way to Budapest. David and Gerry showed up with all the right winners’ attitudes and focus to qualify handily as new Team USA members.
The group of six triathlon comrades could not have been more consistent and happier with their results on their way to compete against the World’s best in Hungary this fall.
