Graf Clinches TT Series
Ryon Graf successfully clinched the Southern California Time Trial Series for 2010 with victory at Santiago Canyon last Saturday.
As mentioned in a previous post, the Southern California TIme Trial Series consists of 11 races from October through May, from San Diego to Santa Barbara, with a variety of challenges on different courses. The contenders for the Series have to be good against the clock in hilly, punchy, flat, and windy conditions over an 8-month period. Consistency and versatility are the name of the game.
Racers compete against their racing category, or age for master's. Though considered "intermediate" by some, the Cat4/5 division is the most hotly contested of the categories in the series, with the most entrants, and is often stacked with time trial specialists and top amateur triathletes in the region.
With many competitors peaking in October, holding fitness over an 8-month period is a tall order. After a tough opening weekend, Ryon found his legs at Tom's Farm and never looked back, winning 7 of the next 9 races. With one race remaining, Ryon has clinched victory in the points tally for the Series.
Santiago Canyon in Orange County is a point-to-point 11.1mi course with 700ft of climbing. In a final show of dominance, Ryon stopped the clock at 26:03, 1.5 minutes faster than his nearest competitor.
Next up for Ryon is the San Diego Cyclovets Omnium before gearing up for the SCNCA District Championships in May.
Ryon's Cervelo was built up and maintained by the superb mechanics at Nytro, where he was also fitted on his winning bike. Nytro is a proud sponsor of local racing and local racers.
