Focus Izalco Team Road Bike Review
After riding the Focus Izalco Team Milram bike around the San Diego area for few months, I decided to write a review on it. First off, Focus bikes are engineered and designed in Germany and are one of the most popular and best selling brands in Europe. Focus bikes are now available in North America and can be purchased at Nytro multisport online and In-store (Encinitas California.)
The Izalco comes as a race ready bike right out of the box. The frame is made of a stiff High Module Carbon Fiber with a Carbon Race UD fork that is equipped with the new SRAM RED double tap 10 speed groupset. Also, it comes with complete Mavic’s Cosmic Carbon SLR wheelset and FSA seat post, stem and bars.
The ride of the Izalco is very nice. After numerous rides on the flats, rolling hills and mountains climbs around the San Diego area, the bike is definitely an all around road racing machine. It’s very stiff and responsive when you want to put the hammer down.
It performs great on the long climbs; it responds impressively to out-of-the-saddle efforts and excels at the seated climbing. It descends comfortable at high speeds and corners precisely around the tight switchbacks. It goes where you want it to go with confidence.
On the flats the Izalco delivers a superb ride while transferring watts to the rear wheel. The bike is definitely for the ‘rouleur’ like myself who can ride hard for hours. I just wish I had this bike back in the day when I was racing in Belgium.
As for the comfort, the Izalco excels especially after many long hours in the saddle. It is comfortable as any other carbon bike but I find that the geometry is suited for the taller riders like myself.
The bottom line I am very impressed with the Focus Izalco. The Sram RED components are also a plus. The shifting is great: very quick and precise. The Mavic Cosmic SLR Carbon wheels are also nice but I would recommend them only for the flats or rolling courses. I found the wheels a little heavy for the long climbs. The bike looks good with the Izalco’s Team colors and graphics. After putting in some serious hours, all I can say that the Focus Izalco is now my new favorite bike.
