Product Overview
The 808 Series is designed to excel in triathlons and time
trials. This incredibly aerodynamic wheel/wheel set is nearly as fast through
the wind as any full disc; however, it is significantly lighter, less
susceptible to cross-wind, and offers incredible handling. That said, the 808
rear wheel has been making regular headlines in road races. In flat or rolling
terrain, the 808 rear is an incredible weapon on the break. Ultimately, if you
are looking for a rear wheel to use against the clock and on the road – the 808
might be your perfect weapon. New for '08:
-Carbon Bridge: Kevlar thread in a co-axial helix stitch
improve rim strength by distributing impact force. According to Zipp,
the Carbon Bridge results in "28% more impact resistance than any other
rim made at this weight".
Employment
- Triathlons and Time Trials: 82mm rims with dimple
technology and bladed spokes improve aerodynamics to slice through the wind
with incredible ease. Remember, the faster you go the more effective this weapon
will be! Not convinced? Both the men’s and women’s 2006 Ironman World
Championships were won on the Zipp 808 Rear Wheel!
- Road Racing: With an extreme aerodynamic advantage and
excellent handling, the 808 is quickly growing in popularity for road racers. If
you love to win off the front of the pack the 808 rear wheel might be just what
you need! Not convinced the 808 is a legit road race weapon? Team CSC
powerhouse and World Time Trial Champion, Fabian Cancellara, broke away from
the charging lead-out trains and sprinters on a 808 rear wheel in the final
kilometer for a dramatic victory on Stage 3 in the 2007 TdF!
