| 2008 Cervelo R3 Road Bike
Product Overview If you are looking for an ridiculously light and stiff bike for an incredible price, the R3 is your obvious choice. It has won the most grueling one-day classic on the Pro Tour calendar (Paris-Roubaix) two years in a row and was used by CSC climbing specialist, Carlos Sastre, to attack the best climbers in the world in the grand tours. Finally, its stiffness-to-weight ratio makes it an obvious favorite for criterium racing and sprinting. Features include: - Smartwall/ Squoval downtube & chainstays: By shaping the tubes in a square/oval design, Cervelo maximized the structural strength of their high quality carbon fiber. With the resulting strength across the entire frame they were able to use less material and still achieve superior stiffness. How stiff? From the Cervelo website, "Winner of industry stiffness-to-weight tests (by a mile we may add) performed and published by some of our colleague bike companies."
- Narrow Seatstays: As a result of the incredible strength created by the squoval design, Cervelo was able to eliminate the majority of material from the seatstays. The result: An incredible shock absorption system that reduces rider fatigue (crucial for cobblestone races like Paris-Roubaix where the results speak from themselves). The R3 already blows away the competition in the stiffness-to-weight testing; however, in the stiffness-to-weight-to-ride comfort comparison, the R3 is light-years ahead. - Component Package: The R3 wheels and components are durable, efficient, and carefully chosen to maximize the capabilities of the frame in both training and racing. Test Review + Incredibly smooth ride. The seatstay design is great for those experiencing aches and pains after long rides. + Sprinting qualities are incredible. Almost no torsional flex results in maximum power transfer. + Climbs like a true champion. "We are going uphill?"
